Ula Studs - Oxidized Sterling Silver

Ula Studs - Oxidized Sterling Silver

Ula means "sea jewel" in the Celtic language.  These particular sea jewels are fossilized Ammonites cast in sterling silver and finished with sterling posts.

This pair has the option of being made in bright silver or oxidized sterling silver which is a process that turns the metal black, followed by a final polish that leaves only the recesses black.  This technique gives more depth to the shell sculpture and leaves the earrings with a little more of a vintage feel than the bright silver version.

Ammonites first appeared around 240 million years ago.  They were prolific breeders, lived in schools, and are among the most abundant fossils found today. They went extinct with the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. Scientists use the various shapes and sizes of ammonite shells that appeared and disappeared through the ages to date other fossils.
